Frequently Asked Questions

Will my personal information be used anytime throughout the booking process?

We will use (or process) your personal information and that of each additional driver named on your rental agreement in order to:

  • Provide the rental services to you, including to enter into and manage our contract with you (including reservations, payments and other contract management requirements);
  • Decide whether to rent a vehicle to you and carry out relevant identity and driving licence checks on you and each of your named additional drivers (including that each driver holds a valid driving licence and to check for any unspent endorsements);
  • Manage, investigate, and otherwise handle any claims under the insurance policies described in these terms and conditions;
  • Process any fines or penalties incurred during the rental period;
  • Communicate with you in person or by mail, email, telephone, text (SMS) or other electronic means for any of the above reasons, including as part of “information only” communications in which we communicate with you to inform you about the particular vehicle you have booked or your rental;
  • Assess the performance of the service, as well as to monitor and improve our administration and management of our services;
  • Provide you an update in relation to this privacy notice
  • Enable us to comply with our legal, regulatory and other good governance obligations (including our auditing or reporting requirements);
  • Anonymise your personal information in order to use the anonymised aggregated data for our own legitimate business purposes

This will enable us to carry out such processes which are in our legitimate business interests (as in compliance with the data protection laws), including:

  • To help us improve our products and services (including through the use of your aggregated and/or anonymised data for customer modelling, statistical and trend analysis),
  • For quality control,
  • Security,
  • Training,
  • Internal record keeping,
  • Protection of our assets, and/or
  • Notify you about changes to our services
  • Subject to your prior consent, to carry out direct marketing including to send you marketing communications (please see further information below).

We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which we collected it, unless we reasonably consider that we need to use it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose. If we need to use your personal information for an unrelated purpose, we will notify you and we will explain the legal basis which allows us to do so.

Is there a minimum/maximum age for renting a vehicle with Volkswagen Financial Services?

The minimum age is 25 and you must have held you license for a minimum of 12 months if you are renting from us. Restrictions apply is you are over 75 years of age.

In order to hire any ID model you must have held your license for 24months.

Can I book a vehicle and pay for it even if I won't be the person who picks it up and drives it?

If you wish to pay for the rental car, but have someone else drive it, you can rent the vehicle in your name and add them as an additional driver. In this instance, both you and the additional driver would have to meet all of our driver qualification requirements.

If I have forgotten my driving licence, can I still rent the vehicle?

No, the driving license is mandatory for renting and must be presented at pick-up time.

Can I still rent a vehicle if my driving licence is expiring soon?

A valid driving licence is required to pick up the vehicle. The expiration date of the driving licence must be greater than the return date of your rental.

Can I add additional drivers?

Additional drivers must be identified on the Rental Agreement. All people wishing to drive must provide their licence and be validated with insurance to ensure they can be covered and sign the rental agreement on pick up.

What documents are required if I'm travelling abroad?

For overseas renters we need to see; your Passport, Driving Licence, Flight Itinerary & Bill or Bank Statement with home address included.
