The Amarok has won the International Pick-up Award 2018 (IPUA 2018), beating the other shortlisted vehicles: the new Mercedes-Benz X-Class and Toyota Hilux. The Amarok becomes the first pick-up to win the award twice, having claimed the title back in 2010.
The IPUA is awarded every two or three years by a jury of renowned trade journalists from 25 countries. They said the Amarok epitomised the ‘work hard, play hard’ ethos of the pick-up sector, and cited its spacious, comfortable cabin, powerful V6 engines and eight-speed gearbox as key factors in their decision.
Dr Eckhard Scholz, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, collected the award at a ceremony in Lyon, France, last night. He said: “We are very grateful to have received the IPUA 2018 and feel honoured by the decision of the international expert jury. With the new Amarok, we've once again listened to what customers want and been able to achieve more power, more torque and also better capability for deployment on any terrain. This is more than just pure luxury and lifestyle.”
